Product Profile
Domaine Vacheron is an esteemed Sancerre producer, celebrated for its exceptionally pure and well-defined white and red wines. This elite property has been at the forefront of a significant transformation, driven by cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron. Since 2005, they have championed biodynamic farming practices across their vineyards, a commitment that has earned them certification from Biodyvin.
The estate currently cultivates 34 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 11 hectares of Pinot Noir, strategically located in prized vineyard sites throughout the Sancerre appellation, such as Guigne Chèvre and Paradis. Each individual parcel is vinified separately, allowing for the creation of nuanced and expressive blends that reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage. While Sauvignon Blanc is a cornerstone of their production, Vacheron also produces remarkable and expressive Pinot Noir, showcasing the potential of this varietal in the Sancerre region, despite its proximity to Burgundy.
Winemaking
Les Romains is a flint terroir located in the eastern part of Sancerre. Here the
soils have a strong resemblance to the terroir across the Loire river in Pouilly Fumé.
The grapes are hand harvested before a fermentation with natural yeasts. The wine ages for 12 months in old oak barrels before bottling.
Tasting Note
There is a definite smoky and flinty quality to the wine that is backed
with a piquant and delicate citrus fruitiness reminiscent of grapefruit.
