Product Profile

Rías Baixas is a region in North West Spain that sits on the Atlantic coast, above Portugal. The popularity of the wines from the area have exploded over the last 30 years, with production levels today nearly 100 times greater than what they were in 1991.

This growth is the result of the current popularity of the Albariño grape. Its popularity grew steadily in Spain before news spread to the export markets. The grape has thick skins, making it well suited to the damp Atlantic climate, and produces some top quality wines.

This one comes from the subregion of the Valle de Salnés. This is the is the oldest subzone and has the greatest plantings and concentration of wineries. It is located directly on the coast and is therefore the coolest and wettest area, generally producing the wines with the highest acidity.

Winemaking

Winemaker Marcos Lojo selects grapes from 12 winegrowers from across the valley. Some vines are over 70 yars old producing very small yields of concentrated fruit. Grapes are handpicked in boxes of 15kg before being destemmed and cold macerated for 12 hours.

Fermentation and ageing in stainless steel vats for a minimum of 3 months, with weekly stirring of the lees to add body and texture

Tasting Note

Light and fresh with notes of apple, pear and white peach with refreshing floral and citrus notes. A great core of minerality.
