Product Profile
Domaine Fond Croze began the day after the end of the First World War in 1918 when Charles Long started cultivating vines in Saint Roman de Malegarde on Southern Rhône. Today, Charles’ grandsons, Daniel and Bruno, are in charge with Daniel concentrating on the vineyards and Bruno looking after the winemaking.
The winery now tends to over 80ha of vines which have been converted to organic farming since 2009
Winemaking
This wine comes from old vines on a 2 hectare vineyard in Cairanne that sits on clay-limestone hillsides with South-East exposure. This particular terroir is beneficial in every way for the cultivation of vines, and for the production of wine for keeping.
The wine is a blend of 60% Grenache 20% Carignan 20% Mourvèdre. Grapes are harvested by hand before a month long fermentation in stainless steel. Ageing continues in steel tanks to preserve the fruit character.
Tasting Note
This wine has a deep garnet color with purplish reflections. The first nose is complex and after slight aeration, aromas of small stewed black fruits and candied cherry emerge. On the palate, we detect a beautiful acidity with very present and structured tannins. This wine offers aromas of black fruits as well as toasted notes on the finish.Complex and well balanced, the finish is long.
