Who makes it?

Established in 1861, Bellevue Wine Estate is a family-owned winery located in the esteemed Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The Morkel family, whose ancestors emigrated from Germany, has upheld a deep commitment to winemaking for generations. Philip Morkel, the family's founder in South Africa, settled on the land, and his grandson, PK Morkel, transformed the estate from livestock farming into a celebrated winery. Today, Dirkie Morkel carries on this rich heritage, blending time-honored traditions with modern winemaking technology.

How is it made?

Bellevue's Chenin Blanc is sourced from a Certified Heritage Vineyard planted in 1976. This vineyard, known historically as 'Steen' for its stony soils, is cultivated using eco-friendly methods. The low-yielding bush vines, situated on a southern slope with a north-south alignment, are carefully tended to. In the cellar, one-third of the wine is fermented in barrels and the remaining two-thirds in tanks. After fermentation, the wine rests on its lees for three to four months to develop texture and complexity before being blended and bottled.

What does it taste like?

This wine offers an elegant, dry profile with a bouquet of enticing white pear blossoms. On the palate, it delivers persistent flavors of stone fruit, including peach, nectarine, and apricot. The combination of aromatic notes and a clean, dry finish makes it a versatile pairing for a variety of dishes. It is particularly recommended with creamy pasta or mild curry dishes.
