Who makes it?

Tucked away in the eastern reaches of the prestigious Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, Château Mangot has been turning dirt into liquid gold long before it was cool. Managed with passion by the Todeschini family, this 37-hectare estate in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse is a masterclass in ecological overachieving. Instead of cramming every inch with vines, the family dedicated 15% of the property to woods, hedges, and grassy strips, creating a high-end biodynamic playground where the local wildlife has better real estate than most humans. By treating the vineyard as a living, breathing ecosystem, the Todeschinis ensure that every bottle captures the raw, uninterrupted history of a truly historic Bordeaux terroir.

How is it made?

The magic behind this exceptional bottle lies in a obsessive, multi-layered winemaking process that borders on mad science. Sourced from 42-year-old vines planted across four distinct clay-limestone altitudes, the blend relies on a classic right-bank powerhouse recipe: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. After a pampered harvest and an aerodynamic sorting process that reads like an aerospace manual, the grapes undergo a low-temperature maceration before a gentle, four-week fermentation. The real party happens during the 13 to 15 months of ageing, where the wine split-travels through 30% new oak barrels, seasoned casks, stainless steel, and trendy clay amphorae. The result of this complex maturation is an organic Bordeaux wine that effortlessly balances Old World density with modern purity.

What does it taste like?

On the palate, this Saint-Emilion Grand Cru is dense, full-bodied, and structured, yet it refuses to weigh you down. Thanks to the unique asteriated limestone soils of the upper plateau, it retains a jaw-dropping freshness, tight structure, and a distinct chalky minerality that cuts beautifully through the rich, dark fruit core. Expect a symphony of plush black cherries, wild plums, and subtle hints of dried herbs and graphite, all wrapped in silky, refined tannins. It is a sophisticated, high-end red wine that pairs just as beautifully with a perfectly seared ribeye as it does with a quiet room and an air of superiority.
