Product Profile
Franck Richard took over the domaine in 1998, immediately implementing organic farming practices. This commitment to sustainability was officially certified with the 2010 vintage. The majority of the vines, inherited from the previous generation, are still in place and boast an impressive average age of 45 years, a characteristic that would be the envy of many prestigious Grand Cru Classé estates.
Winemaking
The wine is crafted from low-yielding vines meticulously tended using organic methods. These vines are situated on a south-facing slope with limestone soil, a terroir that imparts distinct qualities to the wine. Franck Richard, as the independent owner, personally oversees all aspects of the winemaking, relying on his own expertise and intuition rather than consulting an oenologist. The vinification and aging processes are intentionally gentle, with the wine aged equally in tanks and in 3-5 year old barrels. This approach is aimed at producing wines that are pure and truly expressive of their terroir's freshness. The focus on gentle handling and low sulphur levels contributes to the wine's ripe fruit character.
Tasting Note
This wine offers a compelling taste experience, showcasing ripe fruit notes. This fruitiness is beautifully complemented and balanced by a refreshing saline quality. This saline characteristic is a direct reflection of the limestone soil from which the vines draw their nutrients, adding a layer of complexity and minerality to the wine's profile.
