Product Profile
Marques de Tomares is a family winery, whose beginnings date back to 1910 when “Grandpa D. Román Montaña” began to dedicate himself to the production and aging of wines. Mr Montaña laid the foundations with a focus on high-quality blending, and slow maturation in barrel and bottle; an approach which his great grandchildren continue to pursue.
Marqués de Tomares is located in Fuenmayor, under the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin, in the Rioja Alta sub-area, this being a town where historically the high quality of its wines for aging wines is characterized.
Although small in size, the natural region of La Rioja has different climatic zones as a result of its geography; Atlantic, Atlantic-Mediterranean, which gives it unique characteristics for the cultivation and production of its wines.
Winemaking
A blend of 80% Tempranillo. 10% Graciano 7% Mazuelo and 3% Viura from the Cantoblanco vineyard that sies at 730m altitude on clay-calcareous soils. Vines average 60 years old.
Grapes are hand harvested before fermentation in stainless steel, then the wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels and a further 18 months in bottle.
Tasting Note
Notes of black fruit stand out and are complemented by vanilla, chocolate and a mineral background that reflects the exclusive terroir that allows this wine to be made.
Mouth
Fresh, long, tasty, and fatty due to its great structure. Excellent mouth. Fruit and wood very well integrated.
