Product Profile
Villa Conchi is the country house of the Galarreta family, named after the matriarch of the family. Villa Conchi is a modern and elegant Cava that expresses the best that Spain has to offer and is a tribute to a woman who inspired many with her distinction and who loved quality sparkling wines.
Conchi's son, Javier Ruiz de Galarreta, was convinced that premium wines had great potential in export markets back in 1993 and began alliances with quality Rioja Alavesa winegrowers to later expand to other regions. This included Cava and during the 2000s he looked to Catalonia to find a partner capable of producing a fresh and elegant sparkling wine.
In the heart of Alt Penedès, Javier found quality vineyards near Vila Rodona (Tarragona). During her search, Conchi passed away in July 2009 and, unfortunately, she was unable to taste and savor the wines that bear her name.
Winemaking
A blend of 40% Xarel.lo, 30% Macabeo,
20% Parellada, 10%
Chardonnay. harvest is carried out at night to avoid high temperatures and premature fermentation. The grapes are quickly transported to the cellar and refrigerated at 10 ºC to prevent the color of the skins from
impacting the wine.
Each variety is fermented seperately then blend together to produce the base wine. The wine staays in bottle in the winey cellars for 22 months during the second fermentation.
Tasting Note
Fine, fresh and fruity on the nose, with good intensity. Nice bakery aromas in the background thanks to the 22-month aging in bottle in contact with the lees.
Well structured in the mouth, fresh and with a long and smooth aftertaste. Clean, complex and balanced
