Who makes it?

The story of Maison Albert Bichot began in 1831 when Bernard Bichot decided that Beaune simply wasn't tipsy enough. Since then, the family has passed the torch (and the corkscrew) through generations, landing squarely in the capable hands of Albéric Bichot. Since taking the reins, Albéric has traded the "old school" vibes for a revitalization project that would make any vineyard blush. Today, the estate is a powerhouse of Burgundian terroir, boasting prestigious domaines like Long-Depaquit and Clos Frantin. Whether they are tending to their own prestigious plots or sourcing the finest local grapes, the Bichot name remains a gold standard for collectors.

How is it made?

Crafting the Albert Bichot Viré-Clessé is a bit like a high-stakes science experiment, minus the lab coats and plus a lot more limestone. Born in the youngest communal appellation of the Mâconnais, these Chardonnay grapes are pampered on slopes filled with "cray"—those iconic white limestone pebbles that give the wine its soul. Under the watchful eye of vineyard maestro Christophe Chavel, the soil is ploughed and kept strictly fertilizer-free, because great wine shouldn't need a chemical pick-me-up. Technical Director Alain Serveau oversees a meticulous vinification process where 80% of the juice chills in stainless steel while the adventurous 20% gets cozy in oak barrels. After eight to nine months of aging on fine lees, the result is a masterclass in balance and Burgundian elegance.

What does it taste like?

Pour a glass of this Viré-Clessé and prepare for a nose that is more sophisticated than a tuxedo at a beach party. It leads with an exotic parade of citrus fruits and a cheeky hint of floral rose that demands your full attention. On the palate, it’s all about that "cray" life—expect a beautifully balanced structure backed by a crisp, refreshing minerality that reminds you exactly where it was grown. The real showstopper, however, is the finish; a subtle touch of sucrosity gives the wine a lingering length that sticks around like a welcome guest. It’s the perfect partner for grilled sea bass or a creamy poultry dish.
