Who makes it?

Bellevue Wine Estate is a family-owned winery in the renowned Stellenbosch region of South Africa, with a rich history dating back to 1861. The Morkel family, who originally came from Germany, have been dedicated to producing exceptional wines for generations. The estate was initially a livestock farm, but Philip Morkel's grandson, PK Morkel, transformed it into a thriving winery. Today, Dirkie Morkel continues this legacy, having modernized the estate with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.
How is it made?

Bellevue Wine Estate is a guardian of the Pinotage legacy and was one of the first estates to plant the grape commercially back in 1953. The vineyards, with vines planted between 1959 and 1996, are predominantly cultivated as bush vines and employ eco-friendly practices. The winemaking process is a thoughtful blend of tradition and modern techniques. Grapes undergo a cold soak before fermentation, followed by daily aerated pump-overs. After both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is matured in French-coopered American oak barrels.
What does it taste like?

This Pinotage is a fruit-driven wine with a food-friendly acidity that showcases a unique expression of the varietal. On the palate, it reveals delightful notes of red plum, cherry, and raspberry. The wine is well-structured with silky tannins and a lingering finish. Its versatile character makes it an excellent pairing for a variety of dishes, from roast beef and rich oxtail stew to the South African delicacy, braaied galjoen.
