Who makes it?

Established in 1861, Bellevue Wine Estate is a family-owned winery with a rich history in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine region. The estate was founded by the Morkel family, who trace their roots to Germany. After arriving in South Africa, Philip Morkel settled there and his grandson, PK Morkel, transitioned the estate from livestock farming to a dedicated winery. Today, the estate is led by Dirkie Morkel, who has preserved the family's legacy while modernizing the winemaking facilities with state-of-the-art technology.

How is it made?

The wine is crafted from some of South Africa's oldest vineyards, planted in 1997 and 1998 on two of the highest slopes of the estate. These low-yielding, trellised vines are cooled by Atlantic Ocean breezes, which contribute to the wine’s refreshing character. The winery practices minimal-intervention winemaking, with the grapes fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then left on its fine lees for further development, which adds to its complexity and texture, before being stabilized, filtered, and bottled.

What does it taste like?

This wine presents a vibrant and refreshing profile. On the nose, it offers tropical notes of pineapple, granadilla, and litchi. The palate is characterized by crisp green apple and blackcurrant, which lead to a lingering freshness. This wine is an ideal pairing for fresh seafood, light salads, and other alfresco dining options.
