Who makes it?

Located in the renowned Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa, Bellevue Wine Estate has been a family-owned winery since 1861. The Morkel family, with roots tracing back to Germany, has dedicated generations to producing exceptional South African wines. The estate was initially transformed from livestock farming to a thriving winery by PK Morkel, and today, Dirkie Morkel continues this legacy, having modernized the estate with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.

How is it made?

The wine is made from grapes from a trellised, dryland, single vineyard, employing eco-friendly practices to nurture the vines. The winemaking process involves a four-day cold soak of the juice, followed by fermentation with aerated pump-overs. After fermentation, the skins were pressed, and the wine was settled and racked. Malolactic fermentation took place in 100% new French oak barrels, where the wine was left to mature for 22 months, resulting in a limited release wine made from highly sought-after grapes.

What does it taste like?

On the nose, the wine presents enchanting aromas of wild bramble fruit, tea leaf, and thyme. The palate is velvet-soft with flavors of dark plums, berries, and cherries. There is a seamless balance between pure fruit, fresh acidity, polished tannins, and restrained oak, making it a classic choice for fine dining. The wine is also described as layering forest foliage and fresh herbs with Cape fynbos
