Brunello Di Montalcino 2010

Who makes it?

The story of Biondi-Santi is the story of Brunello itself. It is a rare and prestigious feat for a single family to be credited with the birth of an entire wine region, but the creative genius of Clemente Santi and his nephew, Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, did exactly that. In the 1800s, they defied convention by betting on the untapped potential of Sangiovese Grosso, producing the very first vintage of Brunello in 1888. Guided by the philosophy that working amid nature is a divine blessing, the estate has spent over 150 years refining a signature style defined by aristocratic personality and an extraordinary capacity for longevity that remains the benchmark for Italian excellence.

How is it made?

The production of the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG follows a path of uncompromising artisanal excellence at the renowned Tenuta Greppo estate. This vintage was crafted using the family’s proprietary BBS11 clone, hand-selected from high-altitude vines ranging from 10 to 25 years of age. To preserve the purity of the fruit, the wine is fermented in traditional cement vats using only indigenous yeasts, ensuring the true terroir of Montalcino is captured in every bottle. Adhering to time-honored techniques, the wine was aged for three years in Slavonian oak casks, followed by an extensive refinement period in the bottle to achieve its characteristic balance and depth.

What does it taste like?

The 2010 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino is the flagship expression of a truly exceptional growing season, marked by a warm, dry harvest that yielded fruit of incredible concentration. On the palate, this wine embodies a "fresh elegance," seamlessly weaving together vibrant acidity with a deep, complex structure. At 13.5% alcohol, it maintains a refined poise, offering a sophisticated profile of red berries, earth, and subtle spice. Its finish is long and poised, showcasing the "no compromise" quality that makes this vintage a must-have for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a wine with both immediate grace and decades of aging potential.
