Who makes it?

Steeped in over a century of winemaking excellence, Château des Pèlerins is a distinguished family-owned estate located in the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux. Now in its fourth generation, the property is led by the owners' daughter, who seamlessly blends time-honored traditions with modern innovation. While the estate continues to uphold classic practices—such as meticulous manual harvesting and aging in oak barrels—it has embraced forward-thinking methods in vinification and vine management. This commitment ensures that every bottle honors the family’s heritage while meeting the high standards of contemporary wine enthusiasts.

How is it made?

The character of this exceptional red wine begins in a boutique 3.5-hectare vineyard, where 30-year-old vines thrive in a unique terroir. The soil is a classic Pomerol composition of sand and gravel, sitting atop a subsoil rich in iron oxide, which lends the wine its signature depth and complexity. The 2023 Château des Pèlerins Pomerol is a masterful blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Following a hand-picked harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation in thermo-regulated vats before the wine is aged in a combination of steel vats and oak barrels. This careful process balances fresh fruit purity with the structural elegance provided by premium oak.

What does it taste like?

On the nose, the Château des Pèlerins Pomerol 2023 opens with intense aromas of ripe plums and dark chocolate, accented by subtle hints of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and remarkably rich, offering a symphony of dark cherry and plum flavors that meld beautifully with the silky, velvet tannins. This Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend boasts a supple structure and a lingering finish with notes of toasted oak. For the best experience, serve at a cool room temperature of 18°C. It is an ideal companion for hearty red meat dishes such as lamb shanks, roast beef, or a savory pork tenderloin.
