Who makes it?

Château Franc Bigaroux is a distinguished family-run estate deeply rooted in the prestigious Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux. Situated across the communes of Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens and Saint-Émilion, this boutique winery has built its reputation on a commitment to quality and the preservation of heritage. Since a pivotal shift in 2012, the estate has focused on marrying traditional craftsmanship with modern environmental stewardship, eliminating chemicals and returning to artisanal roots. Surrounded by world-renowned neighbors like Châteaux Pavie and Monbousquet, the estate prides itself on producing wines that honor the "very pure tradition" of one of the world's most famous wine-growing appellations.

How is it made?

The production of Château Franc Bigaroux is a labor of love, utilizing eight distinct plots totaling 8.5 hectares of prime terroir. In a nod to ancestral cultural methods, the estate treats its land with immense respect, often employing horses to work the soil to avoid compaction and maintain vine health. The vineyard is home to ancient vines, some over 70 years old, which provide the concentrated fruit necessary for a Grand Cru. During the vinification process, the winemakers balance tradition with precision, using a combination of stainless steel tanks and large 500L and 700L barrels. This meticulous approach ensures that the unique characteristics of each vintage are captured, resulting in a wine that truly expresses its "terroir of excellence."

What does it taste like?

In the glass, the Château Franc Bigaroux displays a striking black Bigarorrea cherry color, offering a visual hint of the depth within. This blend—composed primarily of Merlot for roundness and Cabernet Sauvignon for structure—is celebrated for its feminine elegance and sophisticated character. On the palate, drinkers will discover a beautifully balanced profile where well-integrated wood lends toasted and roasted notes to the lush fruit base. It is a well-structured and "grandissime" wine, possessing the poise and tannin profile to age gracefully for a dozen years or more. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for a special occasion, it remains a classic representation of Saint-Émilion’s power and grace.
