Who makes it?

Château Gaudin is a distinguished family-run estate nestled in the legendary Médoc region of Gironde. Located in the prestigious Pauillac AOC, the winery sits upon the gravelly hilltops of Saint-Lambert—prime real estate shared with some of the world’s most renowned vineyards. For generations, the estate has balanced a deep respect for traditional know-how with the innovative spirit of each new successor. This commitment to heritage ensures that every bottle reflects the unique character and storied history of one of France’s most celebrated wine-growing communes.

How is it made?

The secret to the complexity of Château Gaudin lies in its exceptional terroir and ancient viticulture. The vineyard thrives on AOC-classified gravelly soils that provide natural drainage and radiate stored solar heat, perfectly ripening the fruit. The estate is home to old vines with an average age of 45 years, including a historic plot dating back to 1864. The blend is dominated by 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and a unique trio of ancient varieties: Carménère, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Each harvest is meticulously hand-sorted and fermented traditionally, followed by 15 months of aging in French oak barrels from a traditional Médoc cooperage to develop its structured "Réserve" character.

What does it taste like?

On the palate, Château Gaudin offers a quintessential Pauillac experience, lead by vibrant fruit impressions of blackcurrant, blackberry, and raspberry. These primary notes are elegantly framed by fine woody undertones that provide a rich fullness. Thanks to the high Cabernet Sauvignon content, the wine possesses a refreshing acidity and a long, graceful finish. While delightful in its youth, this wine is built for the cellar; as it matures, it sheds its initial acidity to reveal deep complexity and more pronounced, velvety tannins that allow the wine to cross decades with ease.
