Who makes it?

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse stands as a pillar of the prestigious Pauillac appellation, with a heritage dating back to the 17th century. Founded in 1675 when Arnaud Ducasse acquired property near the Gironde estuary, the estate remained in the same family for nearly 300 years. Its reputation for quality was solidified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, where it was honored as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru). Following a period of dormancy, the estate entered a vibrant new era in 2004 under the stewardship of CA Grands Crus (Crédit Agricole). Today, the château blends its 350-year-old history with a visionary "Renaissance" project, operating as a unique "urban winery" in the heart of Pauillac that honors its historical motto, Regis Semper Amici.

How is it made?

The vineyard of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a masterclass in the complexity of the Left Bank. Spanning 40 hectares, the estate features a diverse patchwork of deep gravel, sand, and clay soils that border legendary neighbors like Lafite and Mouton-Rothschild. These parcels were expertly assembled in the 18th century to represent the very best of the region's varied terroirs. Under the guidance of CA Grands Crus, the estate has implemented sustainable viticulture and modern technical innovations. The winemaking process is a careful balance of tradition and technology; hand-harvested grapes undergo rigorous optical sorting before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine then matures for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, ensuring a perfect integration of fruit and wood.

What does it taste like?

The Grand Vin of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is renowned for its classic structure and remarkable aging potential. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine offers a precise expression of the vintage, characterized by a deep core of black fruit and signature graphite notes. On the palate, it strikes a sophisticated balance between power and elegance, revealing complex layers of cedar and woody aromas derived from its meticulous oak aging. This is a structured, medium-to-full-bodied red wine that rewards the patient collector, evolving beautifully in the cellar to showcase the depth and finesse that define a world-class Pauillac Fifth Growth.
