Who makes it?

Experience the classic elegance of Moulis-en-Médoc with Château La Bernede Grand Poujeaux, a property dedicated to crafting wines with distinct charm and personality. Steeped in tradition, the estate is currently led by Jean-Baptiste and Nathalie Cordonnier, who continue a family legacy that dates back to the mid-19th century. The Cordonnier family has a long-standing reputation for viticultural excellence in the region, particularly since reclaiming their ancestral ties to the Grand Poujeaux area in the 1960s. Today, the estate benefits from a world-class winemaking team, including cellar master Vincent Videau and the expertise of renowned consultant oenologist Eric Boissenot, ensuring every bottle reflects the historic prestige of this Médoc institution.

How is it made?

The exceptional quality of this wine begins in the vineyard, situated on the prestigious hill of Grand Poujeaux. The terroir is characterized by a unique composition of 90% Garonne gravel and 10% clay-limestone, providing the perfect foundation for a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. To ensure concentrated flavors, the estate employs high-density planting and rigorous yield-control methods, including leaf thinning and green harvesting. Once the grapes reach optimal ripeness, they are carefully sorted and fermented in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months, with 12 months spent in oak barrels, resulting in a refined structure that balances traditional methods with modern precision.

What does it taste like?

Château La Bernede Grand Poujeaux is a delightfully elegant and powerful Bordeaux red, boasting an expressive bouquet of dark fruits and subtle spice. On the palate, it reveals a rounded and well-balanced character, where the gentle extraction of tannins preserves a vibrant fruitiness. The influence of the French oak adds sophisticated layers of complexity without overpowering the natural freshness of the Garonne gravel terroir. This Grand Vin is built for longevity; while it offers a smooth and approachable texture in its youth, it possesses the structure and depth to age gracefully for a decade or more. Pair this classic Moulis-en-Médoc with roasted meats or aged cheeses for a truly refined dining experience.
