Who makes it?

Perched on the rugged, south-facing hillsides of Belvès de Castillon, Château La Brande is where the Todeschini family turns a wild, bucolic landscape into pure liquid poetry. Located just six kilometers east of their famed Mangot estate, this stunning 21-hectare property boasts 16 hectares of vines nestled harmoniously among untamed woods and forests. For over a decade, the Todeschini family has championed environmentally friendly viticulture, pampering their 40-year-old vines with organic composts and natural herbal teas instead of harsh chemicals. With a dramatic 63-meter variation in altitude and steep slopes that look more like an intense cardio workout than a vineyard, this exceptional Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux estate blends rich family heritage with a passionate, forward-thinking commitment to the land.

How is it made?

The secret behind this standout right-bank Bordeaux wine lies in its unique, sun-drenched terroir and precision craftsmanship. While neighboring vineyards lean heavy on limestone, Château La Brande thrives on a unique clay-limestone hillside shot through with distinct veins of flint. This special soil makeup naturally blesses the grapes with unparalleled roundness and charm. The Todeschini family harvests each of the 10 distinct plots at peak maturity, putting the grapes through a rigorous aerodynamic selection process before a gentle, four-week vinification in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. To lock in the wine's succulent character, it is aged for 13 to 15 months in a meticulously balanced regimen: 30% in sulfur-free stainless steel to preserve vibrant fruit, 10% in new 400-liter barrels, and the remaining 60% split across seasoned one-wine French oak barrels before being estate-bottled at the château.

What does it taste like?

Uncorking a bottle of Château La Brande Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux reveals a wine that is unapologetically lush, vibrant, and incredibly succulent. Thanks to those distinct flint veins in the soil, the palate strikes a beautiful balance between rich, dark plum and blackberry flavors and a sophisticated, smoky minerality. The 40-year-old vines deliver impressive depth and body, while the careful oak ageing rounds out the tannins into a silky, velvety finish that lingers long after your last sip. It is a wonderfully charming, approachable fine wine.
