Who makes it?

The history of Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a tapestry of spirituality and prestige stretching back to 1540. Originally established by the Bordeaux merchant Arnaud de Lestonnac, the estate’s soul was truly forged in the 17th century by the "Priests of the Mission"—the Lazarists—who transformed the land into a center of viticultural excellence. Throughout the centuries, the property has passed through the hands of visionaries, from the American Chiapella family to the innovative Woltners. In 1983, the Dillon family took the helm, launching an ambitious renovation program. Under the guidance of Domaine Clarence Dillon, the estate has undergone a "New Renaissance," meticulously preserving its ancient aura and consecrated chapel while integrating world-class technical enhancements to ensure its status as a premier global wine destination.

How is it made?

The production of this exceptional wine is a marriage of historic terroir and "ultra-modern" precision. Located in the heart of the Graves region, the vineyard thrives on soils that have been refined since the days of the Lazarist monks. To preserve the integrity of the fruit, the Dillon family inaugurated a state-of-the-art vat house and a "modern cathedral to wine"—the Grand Chai—built from the same historic Frontenac stone used in Bordeaux’s greatest monuments. The 2014 vintage specifically benefited from a miraculous Indian summer; following a challenging rainy period, a spectacular September provided the dry, sunny days and cool nights necessary for the grapes to reach a state of "perfect ripeness." This careful balance of nature and architecture ensures that every bottle reflects the estate’s unique charisma.

What does it taste like?

Château La Mission Haut-Brion Red is a wine of immense power and refined elegance, often described as one of the most consistent and high-quality wines in the world. On the nose, it offers a concentrated and expressive bouquet, dominated by very ripe black fruit aromas and sophisticated roasted nuances. The palate is immediately greeted with a fresh, powerful onset that seamlessly transitions into a display of roundness and complex fruit finesse. This unique wine signs off with a flourish, leaving a long, enduring aromatic finish that lingers beautifully. It is a full-bodied masterpiece that truly justifies the 18th-century claim: "If God forbade drinking, would He have made wine so good?"
