Who makes it?

Château Lafite Rothschild stands as a legendary icon of Bordeaux winemaking, boasting a rich heritage that spans over four hundred years. Originally named after the "La Hite" ridge in the local Gascon dialect, this prestigious estate earned its esteemed "First of the First" designation at Napoleon III’s 1855 Universal Exhibition. Since 1868, when Baron James de Rothschild acquired the property, the family has meticulously preserved the estate’s soul, passing down traditions of precision and resilience through generations. Today, the Château remains a beacon of excellence, blending its historic roots with a modern commitment to the environment as a certified B Corp member, ensuring that the "Lafite spirit" continues to flourish for another thousand seasons.

How is it made?

The vineyard’s magic is rooted in its unique Pauillac terroir, situated on mythical gravel plateaus that offer optimal drainage and sun exposure. Spanning 112 hectares, the estate features deep gravel soils mixed with windblown sand, providing the perfect foundation for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. In a dedicated move toward the future, the estate is currently transitioning to organic farming to protect its vibrant ecosystem of woods and marshes. The winemaking process is equally meticulous; grapes are fermented in a tailored selection of wooden, stainless steel, and concrete vats before the wine is aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels. These barrels are handcrafted at the estate’s own cooperage, the Tonnellerie des Domaines, ensuring a signature style that is unyielding yet delicate.

What does it taste like?

This exquisite Grand Vin is a masterclass in balance, featuring a blend dominated by 96% Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass, it displays a deep, inviting red color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is greeted by a sophisticated bouquet of fresh red fruits and elegant, toasty notes derived from its time in oak. On the palate, the wine delivers an immediate sensation of power and "fleeting vivacity" without ever feeling heavy or excessive. The finish is remarkably fresh, highlighted by finely grained tannins and a velvety woodiness that speaks to its impeccable structure. With its signature harmony and grace, this vintage offers extraordinary aging potential, making it a cornerstone for any serious wine collection.
