Who makes it?

The story of Château Langoa Barton is a rare testament to familial continuity and resilience within the prestigious world of Bordeaux wine. While most estates listed in the historic 1855 Medoc Classification have changed hands over the centuries, the Barton family remains one of the few original owners still at the helm today. Originally hailing from Ireland, the family established their roots in Saint-Julien in 1821 with the acquisition of Château Langoa Barton. Through their unwavering dedication, they navigated the French Revolution, two World Wars, and the Great Depression, preserving their heritage and expanding a world-class portfolio that includes the renowned 2nd Growth Château Léoville Barton. Today, the family continues to manage operations with the same passion that has defined their lineage for over two hundred years.

How is it made?

Situated in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, the vineyards of Château Langoa Barton benefit from a unique terroir that produces wines of exceptional finesse and structure. The estate's production philosophy balances tradition with meticulous care, utilizing methods such as early-season pruning to naturally manage yields and ensure concentrated fruit quality. To celebrate their landmark 200th anniversary in 2021, the family curated a strictly limited Bicentenary Collection Case, featuring five storied vintages hand-selected from the chateau’s private cellars. This exclusive release includes individually numbered cases and bespoke labels that tell the story of the estate’s "Origin," "Heritage," "Nature," and "Evolution," culminating in a magnificent magnum of the 2021 "Masterpiece" vintage.

What does it taste like?

The wines within this collection showcase the remarkable aging potential and stylistic range of Château Langoa Barton. The 1994 "Origin" offers a nostalgic profile of leather, sweet cherry, and campfire smoke, currently drinking at its peak with a juicy, moreish character. In contrast, the 2000 "Heritage" presents a classic Saint-Julien structure, defined by firm tannins, sandalwood, and cedar that are just now entering a beautiful "sweet spot." For those seeking intensity, the 2009 "Nature" provides a bold palate of black fruits and cloves, while the 2016 "Evolution" is a powerful, high-scoring masterpiece of floral aromas and deep cassis. Finally, the 2021 "Masterpiece" magnum rounds out the collection with a fleshy, seamless profile of dark berries and polished tannins, serving as a refined tribute to the family’s enduring commitment to excellence.
