Who makes it?

Founded during the "Grand Siècle" of the late 17th century, Château Pichon Baron carries a heritage as prestigious as the reign of Louis XIV. The estate’s story began in 1689 when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, a renowned wine merchant, acquired vine plots near the Latour estate. Following the marriage of his daughter to Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville in 1694, the illustrious property remained in the family for generations. In 1850, the estate was divided, and Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville commissioned the construction of the iconic, Renaissance-inspired château with its two emblematic turrets. Today, under the stewardship of AXA Millésimes, this Pauillac landmark combines its historic glory with modern architectural marvels, including a stunning underground cellar that continues to uphold its standing as a Second Grand Cru Classé.

How is it made?

The vineyard of Château Pichon Baron is a testament to the unique terroir of the Bordeaux region, where excellence is woven into every vine. The estate's Grand Vin is crafted from the oldest vines grown on historic plots, where the soil and climate converge to produce grapes of unparalleled quality. The production process is a blend of time-honored tradition and innovative precision; following a meticulous harvest, the wine undergoes a sophisticated fermentation process. To achieve its signature structure and depth, the 2019 vintage was aged for 18 months in oak, with 80% new barrels. This careful maturation ensures that every bottle reflects the authentic character of the Pauillac appellation, emphasizing a commitment to quality that has been refined since the 1855 classification.

What does it taste like?

The Château Pichon Baron 2019 is an exceptional expression of the estate, boasting a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot. It presents a striking dark garnet color with vibrant purple hues, leading into a precise and intense bouquet of ripe black fruits and exotic spices. On the palate, this wine is fleshy and powerful, yet remarkably elegant, featuring silky, sleek tannins that provide a sophisticated structure without astringency. The finish is long and distinguished, marked by a bright fruitiness and a charming, sunny style. Designed for longevity, this 2nd Grand Cru Classé will continue to evolve and gain richness for over 40 years, making it a prized addition to any serious wine cellar.
