Who makes it?

Château Poujeaux stands as a distinguished emblem of the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, celebrated for its rich history and commitment to creating wines that stir deep emotion. Situated upon the magnificent gravel slopes of Grand-Poujeaux, the estate consists of a single, unbroken parcel of land that has been cherished by generations of wine lovers. This historic property is dedicated to producing generous and approachable wines that are designed for sharing, whether at a casual family gathering or a momentous celebration. By blending tradition with a forward-thinking philosophy, Château Poujeaux continues to craft "cru bourgeois" quality wines that foster lasting impressions and unforgettable memories for all who experience them.

How is it made?

The 70-hectare vineyard is managed with a deep respect for the earth, utilizing sustainable agriculture techniques and traditional soil tilling to ensure the health of the terroir. In 2016, a fresh spring gave way to a warm, dry summer and a providential Indian summer, allowing the fruit to reach exceptional maturity. The vineyard team practiced rigorous de-leafing and green harvesting before hand-picking each plot at optimal ripeness between October 4th and 21st. Once in the winery, the fruit was separated by vine age and plot location to preserve its unique character. Following fermentation, the wine underwent a precise 12-month ageing process in French oak barrels—with 30% new oak—to refine its structure while honoring the natural vibrancy of the fruit.

What does it taste like?

The 2016 Château Poujeaux is a masterclass in balance, featuring a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. On the nose, it offers a rich aromatic palate of dark berries and complex floral notes, a hallmark of the exceptional 2016 growing season. The palate is defined by the tension and energy of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is beautifully counterbalanced by the roundness and charm of the Merlot. The small addition of Petit Verdot provides a powerful structure and added depth, resulting in a wine with a 13.5% alcohol content and a refined pH of 3.76. Elegant, concentrated, and boasting a smooth finish, this vintage is a true expression of its precious gravel terroir and is ready to be enjoyed now or cellared for future special occasions.
