Who makes it?

Founded by the visionary Gérard Bru, Château Puech-Haut has quietly ascended as the secret superstar of the Languedoc wine region. Spanning 115 hectares across some of the most enviable real estate in the South of France—namely the prized appellations of Saint Drézéry and Pic Saint Loup—this estate proves that world-class French wines do not need a snobbish price tag. Here, the sun-drenched Mediterranean climate joins forces with deep clay-limestone soils topped with iconic galet pebbles. The result is a lineup of extraordinarily expressive French country wines that punch far above their weight class, proving that Gérard Bru didn't just build a winery; he sparked a full-blown southern revolution.

How is it made?

Perched just 20 kilometers northeast of Montpellier, the Puech-Haut terroir sits between 50 and 150 meters above sea level, enjoying cool maritime breezes and a unique carpet of smooth pebbles deposited by the Rhône River back in the Quaternary period. This extraordinary white blend brings together Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier, harvested at an intentionally low yield of 35 hectoliters per hectare to concentrate flavor. The winemaking process reads like a spa day for grapes: gentle direct pneumatic pressing followed by static cold settling, before embarking on alcoholic fermentation in a sleek mix of new and one-year-old oak barrels. The wine then slumbers for 10 months on its fine lees in oak, receiving regular stirring during the initial months to build its trademark luscious texture.

What does it taste like?

Pouring a dazzling golden-yellow hue, the Tête de Bélier Blanc immediately tantalizes the nose with a wonderfully complex bouquet of delicate smoke, ripe yellow-fleshed fruits, warm honey, and freshly baked gingerbread, all wrapped in elegant woody undertones. On the palate, this full-bodied beauty is delightfully supple and masterfully balanced, gliding into a long finish that manages to be simultaneously rich, rounded, and brilliantly refreshing. It is a showstopper at the dinner table, pairing effortlessly with rich fish in cream sauce, a tender veal chop with chanterelles, or a wheel of decadent soft cheese.
