Who makes it?

Château Rouget stands as one of the most storied estates in the Pomerol appellation, with a history that stretches back to the end of the Roman Empire. Formally recognized in land registers as far back as 1700, it is celebrated as one of the first official Pomerol Crus. The estate’s prestige was solidified in the 19th century when it was ranked among the top five producers in the region, a reputation built on the dedication of the Bayonne family. Today, the Labruyère Family has carried this legacy forward since 1992, combining ancestral wisdom with a modern vision to cement Rouget’s status as a consistent leader on Bordeaux's prestigious Right Bank.

How is it made?

The exceptional quality of Château Rouget begins in the vineyard, where 40-year-old vines thrive in a unique terroir of gravelly soils mixed with clay. This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc is farmed sustainably, utilizing biological and biodynamic principles to ensure the health of the land. The 2013 vintage, in particular, serves as a testament to the estate's resilience; despite a challenging growing season, the team relied on "farmer’s wisdom" and intensive manual labor to harvest grapes at optimal maturity. After a meticulous double-sorting process, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, creating a structured and refined wine that beautifully expresses its terroir.

What does it taste like?

On the pour, the wine reveals an intense ruby red hue with vibrant purple reflections, signaling its depth and concentration. The nose is greeted by an elegant bouquet of black fruits, complemented by sophisticated notes of spice and a distinct, earthy touch of truffle. On the palate, the wine is beautifully delicate, offering subtle flavors of ripe plums and dark berries that lead into a pleasantly fresh finish. While this vintage possesses the balance to be enjoyed now, it has an impressive aging potential of over 20 years. For the most rewarding experience, wine enthusiasts are encouraged to cellar this bottle for 10 to 12 years to allow its full complexity to emerge.
