Who makes it?

Nestled just 25 minutes from the vibrant city of Bordeaux, Chateau Saint Ahon boasts a rich and fascinating history that dates back centuries. Originally owned by the esteemed Charles de Montesquieu in the 18th century, the estate faced destruction during the tumultuous French Revolution. However, it was
resiliently rebuilt under the 1st Empire and then beautifully restored in 1875 in the elegant Louis XIII style, a form it proudly retains to this day. As one of the last remaining wine estates in Blanquefort, Chateau Saint Ahon stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Bordeaux winemaking.

How is it made?

The vineyard at Chateau Saint Ahon spans 30 of the estate's 40 hectares, thriving on sandy-gravelly soil over an iron hardpan, a terroir that imparts unique characteristics to the grapes. Planted North to South with an average age of 19 years and a high density of 7,200 to 7,950 vines per hectare, the vineyard is meticulously tended using Guyot double pruning. Committed to sustainable agriculture, the estate is proud to be HVE level 3 certified, employing practices like soil tillage and green harvesting. The harvest is carried out using a harvesting machine with a linear roller sorting table to ensure only the finest grapes are selected for the traditional winemaking process, which includes thermoregulation and a post-fermentation maceration of at least three weeks. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with 20% to 30% new barrels used each year, adding complexity and structure. The final blend is a classic Bordeaux composition of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot.

What does it taste like?

This exceptional Bordeaux wine presents a beautiful intense ruby robe, a visual promise of the sensory journey to come. On the nose, this solar vintage reveals delightful sweet fresh fruit flavours, subtly
intertwined with slightly roasted notes, inviting you to explore further. The palate offers a pleasant and supple attack, with a soft texture that gracefully unfolds, supported by affirmed tannins that provide structure and length. To best experience the full expression of this wine's character and complexity, it is recommended to open the bottle a few hours before tasting.
