Who makes it?

Château Tour des Termes takes its evocative name from an ancient Gallo-Roman tower situated on the "Les Termes" plot, a phrase meaning "the end of the land." This historic site, once believed to be a lighthouse for a bustling ancient harbor, carries a legacy that spans centuries in the heart of the Médoc. In 2023, the estate began an exciting new chapter when it was acquired by the O’Connor family. Bringing their extensive background in renewable energy from Ireland to the world of viticulture, the family has infused the estate with a fresh, sustainable vision. Today, the team at Tour des Termes blends ancestral expertise with modern innovation, aiming for complete energy self-sufficiency while honoring the profound identity of this storied French estate.

How is it made?

The vineyard itself is a masterful display of Saint-Estèphe’s geological diversity, spanning 35 hectares of unique terroir. The estate is comprised of three distinct blocks: one resting on deep gravel terraces typical of the region, and two featuring clay-limestone soils. This variety informs a thoughtful planting strategy, dominated by 60% Merlot for suppleness and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon for structural backbone, complemented by splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Committed to environmental stewardship, the estate follows Terra Vitis and HEV3 certifications, eschewing chemical weedkillers in favor of biodiversity and manual vine care. Under the guidance of renowned consultant oenologist Hubert de Boüard, the grapes are harvested with a focus on vibrant energy before undergoing a refined 15-month aging process in French oak barrels.

What does it taste like?

The resulting Cru Bourgeois Supérieur is a wine of remarkable elegance and longevity, boasting an aging potential of 15 to 20 years. On the palate, the high proportion of Merlot delivers a velvety roundness and refined fruit, while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides a sophisticated structure and refreshing acidity. Delicate aromatic notes of spice and dark berries emerge from the Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, creating a complex and harmonious finish. To fully appreciate its depth, serve this Médoc gem between 16°C and 17°C. It serves as an exquisite companion to roasted red meats, hearty game dishes, or creamy cheeses such as Brie and Camembert.
