Who makes it?

Born from a shared obsession and a slightly sketchy road trip, Comando G is the brainchild of Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García. Back in 2008, long before they were the darlings of the new-wave Spanish wine scene, the duo spent their annual vacations sleeping in a van outside the legendary Château Rayas, staring at vines and dreaming of Grenache greatness. Eventually, they were allowed out of the van and into the history books. Named after a 1970s cartoon superhero squad (Battle of the Planets, for the vintage animation nerds), Comando G has rescued abandoned old vines and single-handedly sparked a global Garnacha revolution, earning a cult following that rivals Spanish royalty like Vega Sicilia.
How is it made?

This particular village-level masterpiece is a masterclass in high-altitude viticulture. Sourced from 50- to 80-year-old bush vines perched on sandy granitic soils in the highest reaches of the rugged Gredos Mountains, it represents a historic first-ever bottling for the estate. The winemaking team employs meticulous biodynamic farming, allowing wild yeasts to kick off fermentation in open-top casks. To coax out maximum character, the 100% Garnacha grapes undergo a patient 40- to 45-day whole-cluster maceration before aging gracefully in a combination of concrete tanks and traditional oak foudres. A perfectly balanced wine that beautifully marries Burgundian precision with Spanish soul.
What does it taste like?

On the pour, expect an intense yet ethereal experience that will leave Pinot Noir enthusiasts checking the label in disbelief. The nose is a lively, aromatic carnival of sweet cherries, wild berries, and a sophisticated dash of ginger, cinnamon, liquorice, and vintage leather. Take a sip, and a vibrant, juicy core of silky plums and cherries greets the palate, backed by laser-focused acidity. It wraps up with a beautifully grippy, textured finish that bodes incredibly well for the cellar—that is, if you actually have the willpower not to drink it all tonight.
