Who makes it?

Before it became a household name for people who enjoy looking sophisticated without draining their savings accounts, Decoy was established in 1985 with a simple mission: make exceptional wine undeniably accessible. Sourcing from legendary California spots, including their own prized Ridgeline and Brownell estate vineyards in the prestigious Alexander Valley, this winery has spent decades mastering the art of the pour. Today, under the watchful eye of third-generation Sonoma County native and acclaimed Winemaker Dana Epperson—who essentially studied the iconic, balanced Duckhorn style before she even joined the team—Decoy continues to set the gold standard for premium California wine. It turns out, decades of viticultural obsession make for a pretty fantastic bottle of wine.

How is it made?

Crafted from 100% premium Chardonnay grapes, this bottle is the delicious result of Dana Epperson’s "light touch" philosophy and deep-rooted viticultural expertise. Sourced from some of California’s finest cool-climate vineyards, the fruit undergoes an intensive winemaking program designed to maximize flavor and structure. The wine is meticulously barrel fermented and aged on the lees (the leftover yeast cells that winemakers obsess over) for eight months. This extended contact doesn't just improve texture; it gives the wine a rich, velvety density and a subtle, woody spiciness from the premium oak barrels. It is a masterclass in balance, precision, and grape-to-glass perfection.

What does it taste like?

Pour a glass and let the charm offensive begin. The nose hits you with an aromatic explosion of ripe white peach, crisp pear, and yellow apple, backed by subtle white florals and a cheeky hint of tropical banana. On the palate, this is a brilliantly modern take on the classic "fat Chardonnay." It delivers a rich, smooth, and dense mouthfeel packed with exotic fruit flavors, light caramel, and sweet vanilla, all balanced by a mature acidity that keeps things beautifully elegant rather than heavy. Smooth, complex, and unapologetically luxurious, it is the absolute perfect accompaniment to butter-poached lobster, pan-seared fish, or roasted chicken breast served over a sweet potato puree.
