The 2022 Decoy Red Blend is a testament to the ideal growing conditions experienced in Alexander Valley. The vintage mirrored 2021 with limited rainfall and warm summer days, perfectly balanced by cool nights that allowed the grapes to develop optimal acidity and vibrant flavors. This careful maturation resulted in average-sized, balanced crops for Decoy’s red varietals. A concentrated picking period near Labor Day, spurred by four very hot days, ensured the grapes were harvested at their peak. Despite a final push before October rains, the overall quality of the 2022 harvest was exceptionally high. This exquisite Red Blend, a harmonious marriage of 55% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petite Sirah, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Syrah, was meticulously aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 40% new and 60% neutral, further enhancing its complexity and structure.
