Product Profile
Maison Joseph Drouhin is a highly esteemed and historic winery located in Burgundy, France, with a distinguished legacy dating back to its founding in 1880. Situated in the heart of Beaune, the winery benefits from its prime location within one of the world's most celebrated wine regions. Managed by the fourth generation of the Drouhin family, the estate is renowned for its unwavering commitment to quality and the preservation of traditional winemaking practices. Their vineyards are strategically located across Burgundy's most prestigious appellations, including Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Chablis, and Côte Chalonnaise, ensuring access to exceptional terroir.
Primarily celebrated for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Maison Joseph Drouhin produces a range of red, white, and rosé wines, including highly acclaimed selections such as Clos des Mouches, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, and Beaune Clos des Ursules. Demonstrating a deep respect for the environment, the estate has embraced organic viticulture since the late 1980s and biodynamic practices since the 1990s across its extensive 100-hectare estate. Their philosophy emphasizes providing "natural answers to natural problems," resulting in deliberately low production yields that allow their grapes to fully express the unique characteristics of each terroir.
Winemaking
This exceptional Drouhin Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses originates from a prime 0.5-hectare parcel situated on the right bank of the Serein River, overlooking the renowned Bougros vineyard. Replanted in 2007 and boasting a favourable south-westerly exposure on a gentle slope, this site benefits from the unique Kimmeridgian limestone soil, rich in ancient marine fossils, which imparts the distinctive character to Chablis wines. The Drouhin family has a long-standing commitment to this region, with Robert Drouhin being a key figure in its revitalisation in the 1960s.
Maison Joseph Drouhin, the esteemed owner of this Grand Cru, adheres to rigorous organic and biodynamic viticulture practices across their entire 100-hectare estate, demonstrating a profound respect for the land and the environment. The grapes for this Les Preuses are carefully hand-harvested and sorted before undergoing a gentle whole-bunch pressing. The resulting juice is then transferred to older 500-litre oak barrels for a slow alcoholic fermentation and subsequent ageing of 12 to 15 months
Tasting Note
A wine of great elegance. Pale yellow colour with greenish hints. White flower aromas are detected on the nose. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, well balanced, with good stuffing. The fruit flavours are enhanced by intense mineral notes, evolving towards slightly smoky tones. A beautiful aftertaste.
