Who makes it?

Born in 1996 amidst the dramatic redwood forests of California’s Mendocino Coast, Goldeneye has spent decades mastering the art of luxury Pinot Noir. While some wineries are content with a one-size-fits-all approach, Goldeneye treats the Anderson Valley like a custom-tailored suit, utilizing a rich palette of terroir-inspired fruit across four estate vineyards. Under the watchful eye of winemaker Kristen McMahan, they juggle 24 different Pinot Noir clones on 13 unique rootstocks to bottle pure, unadulterated elegance. It turns out that listening to the unique marine influences of the Pacific Ocean pays off—if your goal is to create complex, highly acclaimed California wines that make people text their friends in all caps.

How is it made?

The magic behind this specific bottle traces back to the Gowan Creek Vineyard, a site that possesses a delightful identity crisis by blending the valley's sun-drenched warmth with the chilly breezes of its northern "deep end." This 100% estate Pinot Noir features a star-studded lineup of Martini, Pommard, 828, and 777 clones planted in premium Pinole Loam soil. After a perfectly dramatic growing season—complete with a dry winter, a late-August heatwave, and a very polite autumn cooldown—only the absolute finest fruit was selected. The grapes underwent small-lot, open-top fermentations before being tucked away for 16 months of aging in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% neutral) to emerge at a smooth 14.2% ABV

What does it taste like?

To say this luxury red wine is expressive is an understatement; it practically sings from the glass. The sensory experience begins with heady, sophisticated aromas of blueberry, sage, pennyroyal, and warm baking spices that will instantly make you feel like a certified sommelier. On the palate, this smooth and sultry Anderson Valley Pinot Noir gets wonderfully decadent. It is rich and expansive, balancing velvety tannins with voluptuous flavors of ripe blackberry, purple plum, and a streak of red-iron minerality. It all builds to a long, dramatic finish that lingers just long enough to make you realize that, yes, you definitely need to open a second bottle.
