Product Profile
Maison Joseph Drouhin is a highly esteemed and historic winery located in Burgundy, France, with a distinguished legacy dating back to its founding in 1880. Situated in the heart of Beaune, the winery benefits from its prime location within one of the world's most celebrated wine regions. Managed by the fourth generation of the Drouhin family, the estate is renowned for its unwavering commitment to quality and the preservation of traditional winemaking practices. Their vineyards are strategically located across Burgundy's most prestigious appellations, including Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Chablis, and Côte Chalonnaise, ensuring access to exceptional terroir.
Primarily celebrated for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Maison Joseph Drouhin produces a range of red, white, and rosé wines, including highly acclaimed selections such as Clos des Mouches, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, and Beaune Clos des Ursules. Demonstrating a deep respect for the environment, the estate has embraced organic viticulture since the late 1980s and biodynamic practices since the 1990s across its extensive 100-hectare estate. Their philosophy emphasizes providing "natural answers to natural problems," resulting in deliberately low production yields that allow their grapes to fully express the unique characteristics of each terroir.
Winemaking
This Joseph Drouhin Rully Blanc offers a compelling glimpse into the esteemed winemaking traditions of Burgundy. Originating from the Rully and Chagny communes, situated at the gateway to the prestigious Côte d'Or and within the Mercurey region, this appellation boasts a rich history dating back to Roman times. The wine's terroir is defined by secondary age limestone soils, a continuation of the renowned Mercurey vineyards. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the grapes are sourced from both the Drouhin Family's own properties and trusted supply partners, all adhering to stringent quality specifications.
The winemaking process for this Rully Blanc is carefully executed to preserve its inherent charm. Hand-harvested grapes are gently pressed in pneumatic presses, with the finest free-run juice selected for fermentation and aging. This wine undergoes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, with a judicious use of 10% to 15% new oak, contributing subtle complexity. The wine is then aged for 12 to 14 months in these barrels.
Tasting Note
The resulting wine presents a beautiful white gold hue with exceptional clarity. Its aromatic profile is characterised by fresh, fruity notes alongside intriguing hints of broom shrub, almond, and delightful preserved citrus. On the palate, it displays a refreshing elegance, culminating in a long and satisfying finish that leaves a lasting impression
