Product Profile
Chateau La Rose Figeac boasts a rich heritage in the esteemed Pomerol region of Bordeaux. The estate's story began in 1961 when Louis Rapin, Nathalie Despagne's grandfather and proprietor of Chateau La Tour Figeac, acquired select vineyard plots from a neighbouring property to establish Chateau La Rose Figeac. Since 2013, Nathalie Despagne has continued the legacy, steering this charming estate with a commitment to quality and tradition, producing distinctive Pomerol wines.
Winemaking
The heart of Chateau La Rose Figeac lies in its compact yet exceptional vineyard, spanning just 4 hectares. This small size, typical of many prestigious Pomerol properties, comprises nine individual plots rooted in gravelly sands. This specific soil composition is key to imbuing the wines with their remarkable aromatic complexity. Farming at Chateau La Rose Figeac has been certified organic since 2009, reflecting a deep respect for the land and a dedication to sustainable practices. The vineyard is predominantly planted with Merlot (90%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (10%), a classic Right Bank blend that forms the backbone of their elegant wines.
Tasting Note
This Merlot-dominated Pomerol presents a rich and plump profile. On the nose, lovely earthy aromas mingle with intriguing notes of tobacco smoke and liquorice. The palate reveals a beautifully structured wine, brimming with ripe dark cherry and plum fruit. There is impressive concentration, leading to a finish where subtle minty notes emerge, adding another layer of complexity to this wine that is perfect for enjoying now.
