Who makes it?

The story of Château de Parnay is one of restoration and reverence for winemaking history. In December 2006, Régis Vincenot took the helm of this historic estate with a clear mission: to restore the property to the legendary status it enjoyed under its illustrious 19th-century predecessor, Antoine Cristal. Drawing on years of expertise, Vincenot implemented rigorous improvements in both the vineyard and the winery, focusing on increased leaf area, precision trellising, and controlled yields. Today, the estate honors the spirit of innovation that once captivated figures like Georges Clémenceau, blending time-honored traditions with modern viticultural excellence to produce world-class Saumur Champigny wines.

How is it made?

Spanning 35 hectares within the prestigious Saumur Champigny appellation, the vineyard is defined by its exceptional clay-limestone soil and unique microclimates. The estate is divided into four distinct plots, including the famous "la côte" area, where vines overlook the Loire River from atop white stone cliffs. From the early-ripening heights of the Butte de la Folie to the specialized plots of Le Clos des Meuniers, the geography plays a vital role in the wine's character. Whether it is Cabernet Franc ripening in the sun-drenched terraces along the Greenwich Meridian or Chenin Blanc growing through the ingenious stone walls of Le Clos d’Entre les Murs, the terroir provides a perfect balance of drainage and mineral depth that is characteristic of the region's finest offerings.

What does it taste like?

On the palate, this wine is a radiant display of elegance, sporting a vibrant ruby-red hue with delicate purple-blue highlights. The nose is youthful and inviting, performing an "aromatic concerto" of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and cherries, underscored by sophisticated floral notes of blue iris and violet. True to its Loire Valley roots, the texture is airy and smooth—reminiscent of the soft tuffeau stone found in the estate’s troglodyte cellars. With a perfect balance of flavor and a lack of harsh tannins, this wine offers pure pleasure. It serves as a versatile companion to a variety of dishes, pairing beautifully with freshwater fish in red wine sauce, beef tartare, cold meats, or creamy soft cheeses.
