Who makes it?

Château Léoville Barton carries a prestigious legacy that dates back to 1722 when Thomas Barton first arrived in Bordeaux from Ireland to establish a wine merchant company. This rich history took a definitive turn in 1826 when his grandson, Hugh Barton, acquired 50 hectares of prime vines within the renowned Saint Julien appellation. This dedication to quality was cemented in the historic 1855 classification, where the estate was honored as a "Second Classified Growth." Today, the Barton family continues to write this storied chapter, with the tenth generation now stewarding the property and maintaining the international acclaim established by the legendary Anthony Barton.

How is it made?

The exceptional quality of this vintage begins in the heart of the St Julien terroir, where the vines flourish on slopes of Garonne gravel facing the Gironde river. The estate utilizes traditional plowing methods, strictly avoiding herbicides to protect the clayey gravel subsoil. Each grape—a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc—is harvested entirely by hand to ensure only the finest fruit reaches the cellar. Following a precise vinification process in thermo-regulated wooden vats, the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are brand new. This careful maturation, including the traditional "à l'esquive" racking method, results in a wine of remarkable structure and elegance.

What does it taste like?

This vintage beautifully captures the essence of a sun-drenched season, offering an aromatic bouquet where floral, balsamic, and spicy notes act as vibrant, precise sparks. On the palate, the wine reveals a full, plump, and dense body that balances power with a generous sense of tenderness. It is a harmonious and well-structured masterpiece, concluding with a supple, lingering finish that reflects its complex character. Highly acclaimed by the world’s leading critics, this release has earned an impressive 97 points from Wine Spectator and a 18/20 from Jancis Robinson, making it a definitive choice for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
