Who makes it?

Nestled in the lush hills of Chianti, just beyondFlorence, lies the historic Villa Mangiacane estate. This exquisite property includes Palazzo Machiavelli, an aristocratic residence dating back to the late 14th century, and the elegant Villa Mazzei. Over the centuries, Villa Mangiacane has been a haven for nobles, artists, and intellectuals, enriching its heritage with a tapestry of history and culture.

The estate spans 306 hectares, situated at an altitude of 250 to 300 meters above sea level. Thousands of lush olive trees cover most of the land, producing afine extra virgin olive oilnoted for its distinct spicy notes. Hand-harvesting and chemical-free processing ensure a product of the highest quality.

Around 43 hectares of the estate are dedicated to wine production.Sangiovese, the region's quintessential red grape variety, is the star here. As a proud member of the Chianti Classico Consortium, which promotes and protects this precious wine, the winery produces about 50,000 bottles annually.

How is it made?

Denomination: IGT Toscana Rosso

Blend: Sangiovese 100%

Soil: origin of Chianti boulder weathering, sandy with medium stonyness and absence of limestone. The pH is sub acidic.

Vinification: after hand destemming of selected grapes, the crushed grapes are placed in cocciopesto amphora to ferment and macerate until December. Once drawn off, it is left to age again in cocciopesto until the following September. Bottled without filtration and without the addition of sulphites.

What does it taste like?

Deep ruby in hue, the Villa Mangiacane Malchiodo enchants with generous aromas of ripe cherry, wild berry and a subtle floral lift. The palate is plush showcasing fresh, juicy red fruits along with the noticeable natural wine flavours such as farmyard, mushroom and hay, finely integrated tannins and a distinct mineral edge. Its extended skin contact brings intensity and superb balance, while natural winemaking gives a gentle turbidity and potential for sediment in bottle. The finish is long, energetic and utterly moreish.
