Product Profile
Marques de Tomares is a family winery, whose beginnings date back to 1910 when “Grandpa D. Román Montaña” began to dedicate himself to the production and aging of wines. Mr Montaña laid the foundations with a focus on high-quality blending, and slow maturation in barrel and bottle; an approach which his great grandchildren continue to pursue.
Marqués de Tomares is located in Fuenmayor, under the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin, in the Rioja Alta sub-area, this being a town where historically the high quality of its wines for aging wines is characterized.
Although small in size, the natural region of La Rioja has different climatic zones as a result of its geography; Atlantic, Atlantic-Mediterranean, which gives it unique characteristics for the cultivation and production of its wines.
Winemaking
Grapes (90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano) come from the Llanoluengo and Valtierre vineyards that sit at 680m altitude on clay-calcareous soil. Vines average 40 years old.
Grapes are hand harvested before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Ageing is for 12 months in a blend of French and American oak barrels. The wine then ages for a further 12 months in bottle.
Tasting Note
Ripe red and black fruit with notes of spice and dried fruit. Fruity, fresh and round. Elegant and well-constituted tannic structure with a good aftertaste. Very long wine.
