Who makes it?

Born in a valley so rugged it makes a mountain goat look twice, Nekeas Valley isn't just a winery; it’s a masterclass in extreme viticulture. With altitudes swinging wildly between 450 and 650 metres and slopes so steep they practically defy physics, the Nekeas team has spent generations mastering this chaotic geography. The winemakers here are part-time historians and full-time geological whisperers, coaxing elegance out of a kaleidoscopic landscape of red, white, and grey-brown clays. They don't just make wine; they bottle the sheer willpower required to farm a valley that faces every single direction on the compass simultaneously.

How is it made?

This particular red blend is a strategic marriage of Tempranillo and Merlot, hand-selected from the chilly, north-facing slopes where the vines work overtime to maintain their signature "cool." To capture that elusive freshness, the winemakers employ a rigorous cold maceration for five days before a controlled fermentation that never dares to cross the 28 degress mark. Each variety is treated like a sensitive individual and fermented separately—unless the weather gods align for a rare joint harvest—followed by malolactic fermentation to smooth out the edges. The result is a wine that spends its youth showing off vibrant fruit before settling into a long, dignified mellowing process that would put a yoga retreat to shame.

What does it taste like?

On the palate, this wine is essentially an explosion of joy that forgot to be pretentious. It leads with a "marvellously sweet" and smooth entry, hitting you with a concentrated blast of sun-ripened berries and cherries. Despite its approachable, explosive personality, there is a serious backbone of structure here that keeps things sophisticated. The finish is round, fresh, and impeccably pure—the kind of wine that pairs just as well with a high-end lentil stew as it does with a plate of fried tapas and questionable life choices.
