Who makes it?

Founded in 1835 in the sun-drenched region of Tramagal, Casal da Coelheira is a historic estate where the roots run as deep as the vines. While the property has been around since the 19th century, the modern magic began in 1986 when José and Xinanda Rodrigues took the reins, eventually enlisting their son Nuno to transform the farm into a premier Portuguese winery. Spanning 300 hectares along the south bank of the Tagus River, the estate is a thriving ecosystem where pine forests and arable crops coexist with the vineyards. The name itself, "Coelheira," pays homage to the abundant wild rabbits that call this diverse landscape home—though we promise the only thing hopping after a glass of this red will be your taste buds.

How is it made?

Crafted by the powerhouse oenology duo Margarida and Nuno Falcão Rodrigues, the Terraços do Tejo Red is a masterclass in modern Portuguese winemaking. This "international style" blend brings together the local royalty of Touriga Franca with the global heavyweights Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown in well-drained sandy soils that force the vines to work for their greatness, the grapes undergo a meticulous process of destemming and temperature-controlled fermentation. After completing malolactic fermentation to ensure a silky-smooth finish, the wine emerges as a sophisticated, structured red that perfectly balances old-world tradition with high-tech precision.

What does it taste like?

The Terraços do Tejo pours a deep, brooding red that immediately commands attention. On the nose, it’s a lively party of ripe red fruits and exotic spices, offering an aroma so inviting you’ll want to wear it as a cologne (but drinking it is much more rewarding). Despite its youthful energy, the palate is surprisingly polished; expect well-rounded tannins and a harmonious structure that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy. Whether you’re pairing it with a hearty pasta or a seared steak, this wine is designed to be drunk now.
